Brief Description
The Incredible Melting Man is a 1977 American science fiction body horror film written and directed by William Sachs. It tells the story of an astronaut whose body begins to liquefy after a disastrous space mission, driving him to commit gruesome murders.
Plot:
During a manned space flight to Saturn, an astronaut crew is exposed to intense solar radiation. Colonel Steve West (played by Alex Rebar) returns to Earth as the sole survivor. He awakens in a hospital to discover that his flesh is actively melting and disintegrating. Driven insane by the condition, he realizes that the only way to temporarily slow down his decomposition is to consume human flesh. West escapes custody and wanders the countryside, hunting unsuspecting victims. As his body count rises, his close friend and scientist Dr. Ted Nelson (Burr DeBenning) teams up with a military general (Myron Healey) to covertly track down and capture the melting creature before the public finds out. The movie is highly famous in horror circles for its gruesome practical effects created by Rick Baker.
