Brief Description  Journey to the Center of Time (also known as Time Warp) is a 1967 American science fiction film directed by David L. Hewitt. The film stars Scott Brady, Anthony Eisley, Gigi Perreau, and Abraham Sofaer. Produced as a low-budget B-movie, it is a loose, lower-cost remake of the 1964 film The Time Travelers, which Hewitt also co-wrote. The plot blends classic sci-fi tropes like temporal paradoxes, alien invasions, and prehistoric survival.

Plot:
The story opens at the California-based Institute for Temporal Research. Three dedicated scientists—Dr. Gordon (sometimes referred to as Dr. von Steiner), Mark Manning, and Karen White—have spent years developing a laser-driven time-viewing apparatus. Up to this point, their $14 million project can only peer 24 hours into the past and cannot see into the future at all. Following the death of the research center's benevolent founder, his arrogant and greedy son, Stanton Jr., takes over the company. Unimpressed by the lack of profitable results, Stanton gives the scientists a strict 24-hour ultimatum: produce a definitive breakthrough or face an immediate funding cutoff and termination. Desperate to save their life's work, the scientists overdrive their equipment far beyond its safe operating limits during a demonstration for Stanton.

Instead of merely viewing time through their screen, the power surge creates a massive time warp that physically hurls the entire laboratory pod—with the three scientists and a panicked Stanton inside—5,000 years into the future (to the year 6968 A.D.). Upon arriving, they find a desolate, war-torn Earth caught in the middle of a devastating global conflict. Humanity is on the brink of extinction while under attack by alien forces looking to colonize the planet. The travelers encounter an alien leader named Vina, who warns them of Earth's grim fate and urges them to return to their own time to warn humanity before she is tragically killed. The group scrambles to return to 1968. However, while traveling through the time-stream, they spot another time machine heading directly toward them. Communication fails, and a panicking Stanton decides to boost their machine's laser power to destroy the mysterious vessel.

The shockwave throws their machine completely off course. Instead of landing in the present, they overshoot dramatically and crash-land in the prehistoric past (1,000,000 B.C.). While defending themselves against a prehistoric creature, the vital ruby that powers their time-travel laser is shattered, leaving them stranded. While searching a nearby volcanic cave, the team discovers a cluster of rare, precious gems that can replace their broken ruby. Tragedy strikes when the elderly Dr. Gordon slips and falls to his death in molten lava. Seeing an opportunity for immense wealth, the greedy Stanton steals a fortune in gems, abandons Mark and Karen, and takes off alone in the repaired time capsule. However, Stanton does not fully master the controls.

As he journeys "back" through the time-stream, he collides head-on with another vessel—realizing too late that the ship he is hitting is his own group's machine from earlier in the film. Stanton dies in the exact same mid-stream explosion that he himself had caused. Back in the prehistoric past, the time machine mysteriously reappears due to the fractured timeline. Mark and Karen board it and successfully navigate back toward the 20th century. They overshoot slightly, arriving one day before their original departure. Through the viewing screen, they witness their past selves moving in slow motion. Realizing that entering the lab will trap them in an infinite loop or replicate Stanton's fate, they decide to make one final, desperate jump to find a safe era. The equipment fails completely, leaving Mark and Karen permanently lost in the temporal continuum, drifting through the stars toward an unknown fate as the film ends.
