Actor(s):  Anthony Cardoza, Coleman Francis, Roland Morin, Jim Oliphant

Brief Description  Released in 1961, The Beast of Yucca Flats is a 54-minute low-budget B-movie written, directed, and edited by Coleman Francis. It stars former professional wrestler Tor Johnson as a Soviet scientist who turns into a mute, wandering killer after being caught in an American atomic bomb test.

Plot:
The film is notoriously known for being shot entirely without synchronized sound. All dialogue, sound effects, and heavy-handed narration were added post-production, resulting in actors frequently speaking while facing away from the camera or keeping their mouths shut. The movie begins with a completely unrelated scene where an unnamed woman is strangled to death in her bedroom by an unknown assailant. The actual plot follows Joseph Javorsky (Tor Johnson), a prominent Soviet rocket scientist who defects to the United States. He arrives at a remote desert airstrip in Nevada carrying a briefcase packed with secret Russian moon landing data.

As American officials meet him, KGB assassins ambush the group. A gunfight and car chase ensue, pushing a fleeing Javorsky directly into the nearby Yucca Flats nuclear test site. An American atomic bomb is detonated, and the radiation transforms Javorsky into a mindless, hulking "Beast" driven by a homicidal rage. The mutated Javorsky roams the desert wastelands, strangling anyone he encounters, including a vacationing couple and a man at a gas station. State troopers and a search party hunt the creature. Two police officers mistakenly shoot at an innocent father from a light aircraft, believing he is the monster. Eventually, the police track Javorsky to a rocky hill and shoot him. As the Beast dies, a wild baby rabbit wanders onto his body, and he gently caresses it before passing away.
