Brief Description
Unearthly Stranger (1963) is a low-key, atmospheric British sci-fi thriller directed by John Krish. It follows Dr. Mark Davidson, a scientist working on a secret time-and-space mind-projection formula (TP91), who realizes his mysterious new wife, Julie, is an alien agent sent to sabotage human space exploration.
Plot:
Scientists at the Royal Institute for Space Research are working on TP91, a complex formula that allows humans to project their minds through time and space. Researchers working on similar mind-projection technology in the UK, US, and USSR begin dying under bizarre circumstances, often suffering explosive brain trauma. Dr. Mark Davidson (John Neville) takes over the project after a colleague dies. Mark has recently married Julie (Gabriella Licudi), a quiet woman he met on a brief holiday in Switzerland whom he knows very little about. Security Major Clarke (Patrick Newell) suspects Julie because her past cannot be verified. Mark slowly notices unsettling traits in his wife: she sleeps with her open eyes wide, handles scalding hot casserole dishes bare-handed without pain, and frightens nearby children. It is revealed that Julie is the physical flesh-and-blood creation of an alien mind projection. When the alien's concentration slips, Julie displays inhuman traits. The film ends on an unsettling, ambiguous note implying that many such alien duplicates already walk among ordinary people in London.
