Honda with special effects by Eiji Tubaura. Distributed by Toho Co., Ltd., it marks the third cinematic outing for both iconic monsters, the first appearance of King Kong in a Toho production, and the historic debut of both characters in color and widescreen.
Plot:
Mr. Tako (Ichiro Arishima), the eccentric head of Pacific Pharmaceuticals, is frustrated with his company's low TV sponsorship ratings. Seeking a major publicity stunt, he sends employees Osamu Sakurai (Tadao Takashima) and Kazuo Fujita (Kenji Sahara) to remote Faro Island (often compared to Skull Island) after hearing rumors of a giant "living god". The expedition discovers King Kong, who successfully defends the native village from a massive, giant octopus. The islanders pacify Kong using a potent, narcotic red berry juice, allowing the pharmaceutical team to drug, capture, and transport the giant ape back toward Japan.
Meanwhile, an American submarine accidentally reawakens Godzilla from a melting iceberg in the northern waters. Godzilla makes landfall in Japan, proving completely impervious to conventional military defenses. King Kong breaks free from his transport before reaching Tokyo and swims off. As Kong makes landfall, the two rival titans cross paths in the Japanese countryside. Desperate, military and scientific leaders devise a strategy to lure both monsters to the summit of Mount Fuji, hoping they will destroy each other and save humanity.
