Brief Description  Guru, the Mad Monk (1970) is a low-budget, 55-minute cult horror film directed, written, shot, and costumed by legendary exploitation filmmaker Andy Milligan. Set in the year 1480 on the fictional island of Mortavia, the film follows a deeply deranged, schizophrenic prison colony chaplain who funds his church through execution, murder, and grave robbing. Notable as Milligan's only production shot entirely on 35mm film, it features his trademark DIY aesthetic, close-up camera work, and intense, melodramatic dialogue.

Plot:
A young woman named Nadja is falsely imprisoned and sentenced to death for infanticide. Desperate to save her, the prison jailer, Carl, begs the unstable chaplain, Father Guru, for mercy. Guru agrees but demands a steep price: Carl must help him harvest and sell the corpses of executed prisoners to medical students. Carl visits Madame Olga, a lesbian vampire mistress allied with Guru, to procure a sleeping draught that will make Nadja appear dead. In exchange, Olga demands human blood for her experiments. Assisted by Igor, a one-eyed hunchback servant who dug up graves, Guru manages his macabre operation. The operation unravels when Bishop Kopel arrives from the main church with a replacement priest, threatening Guru's absolute authority. Driven by madness, Guru orders the execution of the visitors, sticks needles into parishioners' eyes, and murders both his mistress Olga and the hunchback Igor. Pushed to the brink, Carl finally retaliates by turning on the priest and hanging Guru, successfully escaping with Nadja.
