Brief Description  Cry of the Banshee (1970) is a British folk horror film directed by Gordon Hessler and starring horror icon Vincent Price. Produced by American International Pictures (AIP), the movie capitalized on the success of earlier historical witch-hunting films like Witchfinder General and shares the era's thematic obsession with rural cruelty, paganism, and bloody retribution.

Plot:
The film is set in 16th-century Elizabethan England. Lord Edward Whitman (Vincent Price) is a ruthless, corrupt magistrate who rules his domain with an iron fist, frequently torturing and executing local villagers under the guise of hunting witches for his own sadistic entertainment. After orchestrating a brutal massacre against a local coven, Whitman fails to realize that some of his targets possess genuine supernatural power. The coven’s surviving leader, Oona (Elisabeth Bergner), places a devastating curse on the Whitman bloodline.

To exact her revenge, she conjures a demonic spirit—a sidhe or banshee—which takes host inside Roderick (Patrick Mower), a trusted servant within Whitman’s household. Transformed into a feral, wolf-like beast by night, Roderick begins systematically murdering members of the wicked magistrate’s family. : AIP heavily promoted the movie using the tagline "Edgar Allan Poe probes new depths of Terror!". However, the film is completely unrelated to Poe's literature. It only features five lines from Poe's 1849 poem The Bells read aloud before the opening credits.
