Brief Description  Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (1969) is a British Gothic horror film directed by Terence Fisher for Hammer Films. As the fifth entry in Hammer's Frankenstein series, it is widely considered one of the studio's best and darkest endeavors, shifting the tone toward a bleak, suspenseful film noir. In this installment, Peter Cushing's Baron Victor Frankenstein is completely stripped of any noble scientific ambition, acting instead as a ruthless, misanthropic criminal who serves as the true monster of the film.

Plot:
Baron Frankenstein is a fugitive hiding under an alias in a boarding house run by a young woman named Anna Spengler. Anna's fiancé, Karl Holst, is a young doctor working at the local lunatic asylum. Frankenstein soon discovers that Karl has been illicitly stealing narcotics from the asylum's dispensary to support Anna's ailing mother. Seizing this leverage, the ruthless Baron blackmails the young couple into becoming his involuntary lab assistants. Frankenstein's goal is to steal a revolutionary brain transplant technique perfected by his former colleague, Dr. Frederick Brandt, who has gone insane and is currently confined to the asylum.

With Karl's inside help, Frankenstein successfully breaks into the asylum and kidnaps Dr. Brandt. However, during the chaotic escape, the fragile Brandt suffers a near-fatal heart attack. Realizing that Brandt's body is failing and his invaluable medical secrets will die with him, Frankenstein makes a desperate pivot. He murders Professor Richter—the healthy head of the asylum—and transplants Brandt's brilliant mind into Richter's body. When the patient awakens, he discovers he is trapped in an alien, stitched-together corpse (played with deep pathos by Freddie Jones). Horrified by what has been done to him, the creature escapes Frankenstein’s clutches.

He seeks out his actual wife, Ella Brandt, trying desperately to make her understand that his soul is trapped inside this stranger's body. Traumatized and horrified by his monstrous, scarred appearance, Ella violently rejects him. Recognizing that his life is entirely ruined, the creature vows to exact absolute vengeance on the man responsible for his misery: Baron Frankenstein. The film builds to a suspenseful finale as local police inspector Frisch closes in on the boarding house. In a desperate bid to cover his tracks, Frankenstein kills both Karl and Anna. Before the Baron can escape justice, the creature ambushes him. The creature carries Frankenstein into a blazing house that it has intentionally set on fire. The movie closes on a grim note, with the creature trapping the screaming Baron inside the inferno, leaving them both to burn to death.
