Brief Description  War of the Colossal Beast (1958) is a 69-minute black-and-science fiction sequel to The Amazing Colossal Man (1957). Directed by Bert I. Gordon, the film follows Lt. Col. Glenn Manning, who survived his plunge off Boulder Dam, living mutated, hideously disfigured, and completely insane in rural Mexico before terrorizing Los Angeles.

Plot:
The story picks up after the events of the first film, where 60-foot giant Colonel Glenn Manning was shot by the military and plunged from the top of the Hoover Dam. While the world presumes him dead, his sister, Joyce Manning, refuses to believe he could have perished. : The plot initiates when a series of mysterious, massive food truck hijackings occur in rural Mexico. Joyce, accompanied by U.S. Army Major Mark Baird, travels across the border to investigate. They locate Manning hidden deep within a desolate mountain range. He has survived the fall but is now severely brain-damaged, completely mute, and horribly disfigured—missing an eye and covered in heavy scar tissue.

Driven purely by feral hunger and survival instincts, Manning is a wild animal. The military manages to drug the 60-foot giant with a heavy dose of anesthetics, trapping him and transporting him back to an army base in the United States for evaluation and containment. Once state-side, medical experts attempt to run an electroencephalograph (EEG) on Manning to map his brain waves and determine if his amnesia or violent psychopathic condition can be cured. He is heavily chained with manacles anchored directly into reinforced cement. Joyce tries desperately to communicate with him to spark a memory of his former self, but his fractured mind remains unreachable.

True to classic 1950s monster tropes, Manning snaps his chains, escapes his military enclosure, and wreaks havoc across Los Angeles. He wanders into the city, terrifying citizens and destroying property. The military corners the Colossal Beast at the iconic Griffith Observatory. As he grabs a school bus full of children, threatening to crush it, Joyce pleads with him one last time. In his final moments, a brief flash of human lucidity returns to Manning's eyes. Realizing what he has become and the danger he poses, he sets the bus down safely. He then steps backward directly into high-voltage electrical power lines, committing suicide in a shock of colorized sparks. He vanishes into thin air, leaving behind an empty landscape.
