Brief Description  The Crawling Eye (originally released in the UK as The Trollenberg Terror) is a 1958 British science fiction horror film directed by Quentin Lawrence and starring Forrest Tucker and Janet Munro. Adapted from a BBC television serial, the story follows a mysterious, localized radioactive cloud on a Swiss mountain linked to a series of gruesome, headless decapitations.

Plot:
The film opens on the slopes of Mount Trollenberg in the Swiss Alps, where a group of student climbers are suddenly enveloped by a freak mist. One of the climbers is violently dragged away and decapitated. Shortly after, Alan Brooks, a United Nations troubleshooter, arrives in the area. On his train ride, he meets sisters Anne and Sarah Pilgrim, who run a stage mind-reading act. As the train nears Trollenberg, Anne experiences a powerful, overwhelming psychic vision and faints, compelling the sisters to get off early at the mountain resort.

Brooks is in Switzerland to meet with Professor Crevett at the high-altitude Trollenberg Observatory. Crevett reveals that a stationary, highly radioactive cloud has formed on the mountainside. Brooks secretly notes that this matches the exact atmospheric anomalies that accompanied a series of mysterious decapitations in the Andes Mountains three years prior. While staying at the local hotel, Anne falls into another deep trance. She mentally views a weather hut on the mountain where two climbers are currently staying. Suddenly, the radioactive cloud moves over the hut, and the men scream in terror. Brooks and a rescue team trek up to the hut, only to find the interior entirely frozen solid and one of the climbers decapitated.

The second climber from the hut, Dewhurst, is found alive but completely emotionless. It is soon discovered that he has been murdered and reanimated as a telepathic zombie controlled by the entities inside the cloud. Controlled by this alien force, Dewhurst attempts to assassinate Anne because her genuine psychic abilities pose a direct threat to the aliens' plans. He is ultimately shot and stopped, but his body rapidly dissolves into frozen, melting flesh. Realizing that the cloud is descending upon the village, Brooks and the local authorities orchestrate an evacuation. The townspeople flee up the mountain via a cable car to take refuge inside the heavily fortified, concrete observatory.

As the mist blankets the observatory, the temperature drops to sub-zero levels. The true nature of the invaders is finally revealed when the fog clears. Emerging from the mist are The Crawling Eyes: massive, pulsing, brain-like alien blobs featuring a single, giant, glaring eyeball and long, undulating tentacles. The monsters launch a full-scale assault on the observatory, smashing through windows and using their tentacles to grab and decapitate victims. Simultaneously, another possessed human infiltrator tries to strangle Anne inside the base.

Brooks realizes that while the aliens thrive in freezing cold and use the radioactive mist to survive, they are highly vulnerable to heat. He coordinates with the military to launch an aerial counter-offensive. UN fighter bombers are called in to rain Molotov cocktails and fire bombs directly onto the observatory roof and the surrounding slopes. The fiery explosions successfully incinerate the giant eyeballs, causing them to burst and melt away, saving the remaining survivors.
