Brief Description  The Blob (1958) is a classic sci-fi horror film directed by Irvin S. Yeaworth Jr. It stars Steve McQueen (billed as Steven McQueen) in his first leading role alongside Aneta Corsaut. The plot follows a gelatinous, carnivorous alien lifeform that arrives on Earth via a small meteorite and terrorizes small Pennsylvania communities.

Plot:
Teenagers Steve Andrews (Steve McQueen) and Jane Martin (Aneta Corsaut) are parked at a lovers' lane when they witness a meteorite streak across the sky and crash into the woods. An elderly man living nearby discovers the meteorite first. When he pokes it with a stick, the space rock breaks open, revealing a small, glowing mass of jelly that attaches itself to his hand. Terrified and in pain, the old man wanders onto the road, where Steve and Jane narrowly miss hitting him with their car. They drive him to the local clinic of Dr. Hallen. While the doctor tries to analyze the strange substance, the jelly completely consumes the old man, growing noticeably larger. The creature quickly claims the doctor and his nurse. Steve returns to the clinic, sees the doctor vanish, and catches a glimpse of the expanding, amorphous creature. Steve and Jane attempt to warn the local police. However, Officer Dave (Earl Rowe) and the town elders dismiss their claims as an elaborate teenage prank or a hot-rodder stunt.

Unchecked, the monster moves through the town, absorbing a mechanic at a garage and patrons at a grocery store. With every meal, the creature expands, grows more aggressive, and turns a deeper, blood-red color. The film culminates in its most iconic sequence. The massive creature oozes into the local Colonial Theatre during a midnight horror screening. It panics the audience, sending crowds screaming out into the street. Steve, Jane, and her little brother take refuge inside a local diner, which the Blob completely surrounds and envelops. While defending the diner with a CO2 fire extinguisher, Steve notices that the freezing cold causes the creature to recoil and shrink. Steve relays the weakness to Officer Dave. The townspeople gather fire extinguishers, and the high school students vandalize the school to retrieve more CO2 units. They successfully freeze the monster into a solid mass. The military transports the frozen organism to the Arctic, where it will remain harmless "as long as the Arctic stays cold".
