Brief Description  The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) is a landmark British Gothic horror film produced by Hammer Film Productions, directed by Terence Fisher, and starring Peter Cushing as Baron Victor Frankenstein and Christopher Lee as the Creature. Awaiting execution in a prison cell for murder, Frankenstein recounts his chilling scientific descent into reanimating life, shifting the true monstrous nature onto the cold, arrogant doctor rather than his creation.

Plot:
The movie opens in a bleak prison cell where a condemned Baron Victor Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) awaits execution for murder. Desperate to clear his name, he begs a visiting priest to listen to his fantastic, gruesome confession. In a flashback, a young, wealthy Victor inherits his family fortune and hires a tutor, Paul Krempe (Robert Urquhart). As Victor grows up, the two become equal scientific partners and successfully manage to reanimate a dead puppy. Flushed with success, Victor insists on pushing boundaries to build a living human from salvaged body parts. Paul, deeply unsettled by the moral and religious implications, refuses to help and tries to distance himself.

To ensure his creation has an elite mind, Victor invites the brilliant, elderly Professor Bernstein to his estate, only to deliberately murder him to harvest his brain. Paul discovers Victor's morbid intentions and attempts to stop the experiment. During a physical struggle in the laboratory, the jar holding Bernstein's brain is shattered, severely damaging the brain before it is implanted. Despite the compromised brain, Victor successfully brings The Creature (Christopher Lee) to life. Because of the brain damage, the Creature behaves not as a genius, but as a mute, psychotic, and violent monster. It breaks free into the countryside, strangling a local blind man before Paul shoots it in the head.

Victor secretly digs up the buried Creature and reanimates it a second time. Meanwhile, Victor's unsuspecting fiancée, Elizabeth (Hazel Court), moves into the estate. The Creature escapes onto the castle roof and attacks Elizabeth. Victor attempts to shoot the Creature but misses, hitting an oil lamp instead. The Creature is engulfed in flames and plunges into a vat of acid, dissolving every trace of its existence. Back in the present, the priest dismisses Victor's story as madness. Paul visits Victor's cell but refuses to corroborate the tale to the authorities, leaving a hysterical Victor to face the guillotine alone.
