Brief Description  The The Amazing Colossal Man is a 1957 black-and-white American International Pictures sci-fi film directed by Bert I. Gordon. It follows U.S. Army Lt. Col. Glenn Manning, who survives a plutonium blast, grows uncontrollably to 60 feet tall, loses his sanity due to brain oxygen deprivation, and goes on a tragic rampage in Las Vegas.

Plot:
The story follows U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Glenn Manning (played by Glenn Langan), a Korean War veteran stationed at a desert military base. During a top-secret test of a new plutonium bomb, a civilian plane crashes into the target zone. Manning heroically runs into the blast area to rescue the pilot just as the bomb detonates. Manning survives the initial atomic blast but suffers severe third-degree burns covering 90% of his body. Astonishingly, his burns heal overnight. However, the radiation triggers a mutation causing his cells to multiply exponentially. He begins growing at a rate of 8 to 10 feet per day, eventually peaking at 60 feet tall.

As Manning grows, scientists and doctors scramble to find a cure. They discover a fatal medical complication: his circulatory system cannot keep pace with his massive growth, and his heart—described as a single, giant cell—is struggling to pump blood. This causes severe chest pains, fainting spells, and a lack of blood flow to his brain. The physical toll, combined with intense isolation and the realization that he can never live a normal life with his fiancée, Carol Forrest (Cathy Downs), drives Manning into severe madness and paranoia.

Manning escapes from the secret military facility and descends upon Las Vegas, Nevada. Delirious and enraged, he stomps through the Vegas strip, terrifying tourists and damaging iconic signs. Scientists create a massive syringe filled with a shrinking formula and manage to inject it into him. Though the formula briefly stabilizes him, the military corners the giant Manning at the Boulder Dam (Hoover Dam). Manning grabs his fiancée but is coaxed into putting her down safely. The military opens fire with a bazooka, hitting Manning and causing him to fall over the edge of the dam to his presumed death.
