Brief Description  13 Ghosts is a 1960 American supernatural horror film produced and directed by the legendary gimmick-master William Castle, written by Robb White, and distributed by Columbia Pictures. The movie follows an impoverished family who inherits a massive, ramshackle mansion from an eccentric uncle, only to discover the estate is packed with hidden treasure and 12 horrifying spirits looking for a 13th companion. Famously captured in "Illusion-O" technology, the theatrical release gave audience members a "Ghost Viewer" to choose whether or not they wanted to see the supernatural entities onscreen.

Plot:
Cyrus Zorba, a cash-strapped paleontologist, faces financial ruin when his furniture is repossessed. Out of nowhere, the family learns that Cyrus's eccentric uncle, Dr. Plato Zorba, has died and willed them a giant, fully furnished suburban mansion. The family—consisting of Cyrus, his wife Hilda, teenage daughter Medea, and young son Buck—moves into the house immediately. They are greeted by a deeply unsettling housekeeper, Elaine Zacharides, who dabbles in the dark arts, and the family attorney, Benjamin Rush. Rush warns them that Plato Zorba collected ghosts from all over the world and confined them to the property.

Soon after moving in, Buck discovers a special pair of supernatural goggles invented by his late uncle. Looking through the goggles reveals the terrifying ghosts roaming the house. The family also discovers that Plato hid a massive cash fortune somewhere within the walls. As the hauntings intensify, it is revealed that the true villain is not a ghost, but the attorney Ben Rush. Desperate to claim Plato's hidden cash for himself, Ben rigs a deadly, moving canopy bed to crush young Buck. However, the ghost of Plato intervenes, saving the boy and shoving Ben into his own death trap. The family recovers the hidden cash, the sinister house keeper packs up, and the ghosts—now pacified after securing Ben as their final 13th ghost—vanish for good.
