Brief Description  Cat People (1942) is an influential, low-budget psychological horror film directed by Jacques Tourneur and produced by horror visionary Val Lewton for RKO Radio Pictures. Plot:
The Meeting: While sketching a black panther at the Central Park Zoo, Irena meets Oliver Reed (Kent Smith), a marine engineer. The two strike up a whirlwind romance and quickly marry.

The Curse: Irena is plagued by a deep psychological terror stemming from fables of her ancestral village. She firmly believes she is a descendant of a race of cat-worshipping witches who turn into murderous panthers when aroused by passion, jealousy, or anger.

The Unconsummated Marriage: Terrified of killing Oliver, Irena refuses to consummate their marriage, forcing them to sleep in separate rooms.

The Rift & Jealousy: As Oliver's patience wears thin, he begins confiding in and spending time with his assistant, Alice Moore (Jane Randolph), who has long harbored feelings for him. This sparks deep envy in Irena, causing the very emotions she fears to rise to the surface.

The Tragic Climax: Oliver sends Irena to a psychiatrist, Dr. Louis Judd (Tom Conway), who dismisses her fears as childhood trauma. Later, driven by his own arrogance and attraction to Irena, Dr. Judd attempts to kiss her. Her passion triggers the transformation off-screen. A panther attacks and mortally wounds Judd, though he manages to stab the beast with his sword cane. A wounded Irena flees to the zoo, unlocks the panther's cage, and is crushed by the escaping cat—metaphorically ending her curse through death.
