Brief Description  The Mummy's Ghost (1944) is an American horror film produced by Universal Pictures, directed by Reginald LeBorg, and starring Lon Chaney Jr. as the mummy Kharis. As the second sequel to The Mummy's Hand (1940), it continues the story of the ancient Egyptian mummy hunting for his lost love in America. The film is widely remembered for its unusually bleak, tragic ending that broke away from standard Hollywood monster-movie formulas.

Plot:
In Egypt, the dying High Priest Andoheb summons a young priest, Yousef Bey, to the Temple of Arkam. He explains that the mummy Kharis is still alive in America. Bey is tasked with traveling to Mapleton, Massachusetts, to retrieve Kharis and the preserved body of Princess Ananka so they can be returned to their rightful tombs. Meanwhile, at a New England college, Professor Matthew Norman accidentally unleashes a crisis by brewing tana leaves in his lab. The scent revives Kharis, who wanders out of the woods and murders the professor. Kharis later breaks into a museum where Ananka's mummy is displayed. When he touches her sarcophagus, the ancient body instantly disintegrates into dust. Her soul has officially fled.

Ananka’s spirit is reborn into Amina Mansori, a local beautiful student of Egyptian descent. Amina immediately falls into a fugue state, developing a mysterious streak of stark white hair and a strong hypnotic attraction to the mummy. Yousef Bey arrives and successfully takes control of Kharis using tana leaf fluid. However, upon seeing Amina, Bey breaks his priestly vows. Smitten by her beauty, he decides to kidnap her and brew the fluid of life to grant himself and Amina eternal youth. This betrayal enrages Kharis.

Kharis turns on his master, killing Yousef Bey for his greed. Amina's boyfriend, Tom Hervey, leads an angry mob of townspeople and police to the shack where she is held captive. Kharis scoops up the helpless Amina and flees deep into the nearby Massachusetts swamps. As the posse closes in, the supernatural curse takes full effect on Amina. Right before Tom’s eyes, her body rapidly ages centuries in a matter of seconds, transforming her into a withered, ancient Egyptian corpse. Clutched tightly in Kharis's arms, she sinks beneath the dark waters of the quicksand swamp. The movie ends with both lovers swallowed by the mire, leaving the heroes entirely too late to save her.
