Brief Description  The Mummy's Hand (1940) is a classic Universal Pictures horror film directed by Christy Cabanne and produced by Ben Pivar. Rather than acting as a direct sequel to the 1932 Boris Karloff classic, it serves as an unacknowledged remake and reboot, resetting the mythology with a brand new mummy and a lighter, more adventure-focused tone. It is the first of four films to feature the iconic, shambling mummy named Kharis.

Plot:
The Origin of Kharis: On his deathbed, the High Priest of Karnak tells his successor, Andoheb (George Zucco), the secret of Kharis. Three thousand years prior, prince Kharis was buried alive and wrapped in bandages as punishment for trying to use sacred tana leaves to resurrect his forbidden love, Princess Ananka.

The Expedition: Down-on-their-luck archaeologists Steve Banning (Dick Foran) and Babe Jenson (Wallace Ford) find a fragment pointing to Ananka's resting place. They convince a traveling illusionist, "The Great Solvani" (Cecil Kellaway), and his daughter Marta (Peggy Moran) to fund the dig.

The Awakening: The team unearths the tomb, discovering not just relics but the mummified remains of Kharis. Andoheb, now heading the local cult, brews a tana leaf potion under the full moon to revive Kharis, tasking the monster with killing the intruders who dared defile the holy site.

The Terror: Kharis stalks the camp, murdering the museum curator and targeting the archaeologists. He abducts Marta to sacrifice her to the goddess Isis as a bride for his eternal spirit.

The Defeat: Banning, Jenson, and the police track the cult to their hidden temple lair. A fiery confrontation ensues, destroying the high priest's stronghold and putting an end to the living mummy's rampage.
