Brief Description  The Sea Beast (1926) is a landmark American silent romantic adventure drama film that holds historic significance as the very first film adaptation of Herman Melville’s classic 1851 novel, Moby-Dick. Plot:
The Romantic Rivalry: Long before he becomes the bitter captain of the Pequod, Ahab Ceeley is a carefree, cheerful whaler in New Bedford. He is deeply in love with Esther Harper, a pure and lovely minister’s daughter, and the two plan to marry. However, Ahab's half-brother Derek is secretly infatuated with Esther and plots to steal her away.

The Betrayal and Mutilation: During a chaotic, frenzied hunt for the legendary white whale Moby Dick, Derek seizes an opportunity to eliminate his rival. He covertly shoves Ahab overboard into the churning waters, framing it to look like an accidental stumble. While in the sea, Moby Dick attacks Ahab, brutally severing his leg.

The Misunderstanding and Descent into Obsession: Ahab survives the attack and returns to land with a peg leg. Believing that his physical deformity makes him unlovable, and misinterpreting Esther’s shock as disgust and rejection, Ahab grows deeply bitter. He undergoes a psychological transformation, abandoning his happy demeanor for an all-consuming, morbid obsession with killing the white whale.
